I never thought much about whether there were pets aboard the Titanic or not, until I read an article at the Huffington Post about a new Titanic centennial museum exhibit which tells about the dogs which were on board the Titanic on April 15, 1912, all pets of first-class passengers.
Of the dogs on board, only three survived: a baby Pomeranian, owned by Margaret Hays of New York City, who kept the puppy in the cabin with her, Sun Yat-sen, a Pekinese belonging to Henry and Myra Harper (of Harper & Row publishing fame), and a small Pomeranian owned by Elizabeth Rothschild from Watkins Glen, N.Y.
