The cancer returned, but the pig-nosis is good. Richmond's beloved painting pig, Smithfield, was diagnosed with nasal cancer four years ago, treated and -- after surgery and 19 rounds of radiation -- pronounced cured. No pun intended. Smithfield's most recent appearance was June 2 at Pocahontas State Park. "I knew by then," his "mom" said. "I was watching it; I was worried. I could see the lump on his nose, just like last time." Martin took Smithfield to his vet, who referred him back to North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine in Raleigh. "They were very encouraging," Martin said. "They said four years [of remission] was a long time. They said his prognosis is very good. He should have two years, maybe four . . . or maybe [the cancer] will never come back."
