Sick perverts

Muskogee County, OK, prosecutors on Tuesday charged a man and woman with fatally shooting and skinning a 7-week-old puppy they intended to make into a belt. A judge ordered mental competency testing for Austin Michael Mullins, 26, and Krystal Lynn Lewis, 23. Muskogee County sheriff’s Deputy George Roberson said Mullins shot the puppy 10 times with a .22-caliber pistol at a park near town, and Lewis then skinned the puppy at her apartment. The pair nailed the hide to a board displayed at the apartment and told investigators they planned to have it made into a belt. Source

This is such an interesting topic for many reasons. Would we find it as perverted if this couple found a cow and killed it to make a leather belt? Would they be considered twisted and mental then? Our society eats factory farmed meat where terrible things happen to the animals, and many people buy shoes, purses, belts and fur trimmed jackets that all are all animals killed and skinned and processed for our consumption. The difference being: someone else is killing it for you.

Many people don't think at all about these purchases they make, even when they require the taking of another conscious life. But we put our canine friends up on a pedestal and could never imagine hurting this specific species. Perhaps if we transfer the insight of that compassionate connection onto all other species we might live in a more loving, balanced world where we can be co-dependent with other species and not look at certain animals as human's natural fashion resource.

you're very right "the lady", but I think what put this case in the spot light is the fact that the puppy was merely 7 weeks old. But yes it is terrible that these kinds of things happen to many animals just for the sake of leather, it's very sad...
