Wearable taxidermy

Taxidermy Brown Mouse Brooch

This is a wearable piece of taxidermy - a preserved brown mouse with a pink, delicate bow tied to her tail and a dainty gold pin backing. She is about 2 inches tall. (Now features thin leather ears for greater durability).

Each taxidermy item that Precious Creature Taxidermy creates is one of a kind and special, as it commemorates a precious and perfect life a creature had in this world. Each animal's shape and essence is taken into account in the mounting process, as no animal is the same.

Tylenol-loaded mice dropped from air to control snakes

Dead mice packed with acetaminophen, strapped to pieces of cardboard and dropped from helicopters may help control one of the big headaches for the Pacific island of Guam – the brown tree snake.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture last week began dropping the expired rodents packed with 80 mg of the generic equivalent of Tylenol on the forests of Naval Base Guam.

Since scientists discovered that the household pain reliever was deadly to the brown tree snakes, they’ve been trying to figure out how to get it to where many of the serpents live in the canopies of the island’s forests.

Pizzeria Owner Leaves Mice At Rival Shops

UPPER DARBY, Pa. -- A pizzeria owner with mice problems he blamed on competitors tried to sabotage two rival shops by dumping mice in them. Upper Darby police said a man walked into Verona Pizza on Monday afternoon and asked to use the bathroom. After he left, the owner said he found footprints on the toilet and noticed that the drop ceiling had been disturbed, and he found a bag tucked up above. The owner turned the bag over to two police officers who happened to be eating lunch there, and they found three white mice inside, police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said. Police say the man then walked across the street to Uncle Nick's Pizza and dumped another bag into a trash can inside the establishment, and police found five live mice and one dead one inside. Mice are not suitable for target practice

Fox News reports: A Mendocino County woman who was trying to kill mice in her trailer with a gun ended up shooting herself and another person. The 43-year-old woman pulled out her .44-caliber Magnum revolver after she saw the mice scurrying across the floor of her trailer on Highway 20 in Potter Valley, sheriff's officials said. But she accidentally dropped the gun, which went off as it struck the floor. The bullet went through the woman's kneecap, bounced off the keys sitting on the belt loop of a 42-year-old man in the trailer and grazed the man's groin before ending up in his coin pocket. Authorities did not release the shooting victims' names. The mice escaped the shooting unharmed.

Cute little Zebra Mouse

I found this charming little guy at a website, Furry Critters, which is full of information, pictures, and forums about hamsters, rats and mice. A word of warning about the Picture Gallery: there is just way, way too much to look at there - you might be lost for hours looking at photos.

Chocolate Mice

The Williams-Sonoma internet catalog has these chocolate truffle mice listed for $15.00 for a set of four. Made entirely by hand, they combine milk chocolate ganache centers with a coating of milk chocolate. If you have a little time, you can make your own chocolate mice, like we did. The nose is a Hershey's kiss. The body is a maraschino cherry. Stick them together, dip into white or dark melted chocolate, use almond slivers for ears. Done. Cute. Easy. Cheap.

Chinese Villagers Ward Off 2 Billion Mice Overrunning Lake Area

BEIJING — People living in communities surrounding a large shallow lake have been overrun by field mice after floodwaters drove the rodents out of islands on the lake. The mouse invasion began on June 23 when the Yangtze River flooded, raising the water level in central China's Dongting Lake and submerging mouse holes on lake islands, the official Xinhua News Agency said. Now, an estimated 2 billion mice are ravaging crops in 22 counties around the lake, and authorities were rushing to construct walls and ditches to keep the rodents out. Residents have killed more than 2.3 million field mice — or 90 tons of the rodents, Xinhua said.

Mouse Taunts Man, Steals Dentures

Bill Exner, 68, has his dentures back, but his wife said the mouse that stole them is now taunting him. The resident of Waterville, Maine, said he's caught the mouse three times, but each time it escaped. Exner told the Morning Sentinel he trapped the field mouse and placed in a gallon-sized pickle jar three times. He said each time the mouse escaped. "The first time, I left the top off the pickle jar -- I figured there's no way this guy can get out," Exner told the paper. "But he escaped, so the next time I caught him, I put the cover on loosely so he could breathe, and he got out again." After the third time, Exner discovered his lower dentures were missing. In the subsequent search, he and his wife found a small opening in a wall. With the help of their daughter's fiance, they tore a larger hole and retrieved the dentures. "The dentures were inside the wall, lying right there. They were not damaged. The mouse didn't bite them or anything. It's like he was saying, 'I'm going to get even with you for putting me in that jar,'" Exner said.
