University of California, San Francisco researchers drilled holes in monkeys' skulls and induced irregular heartbeats in dogs without first seeking more humane alternatives, a physicians group alleges in a lawsuit to be filed Tuesday. The nonprofit Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine seeks to stop research experiments until officials can guarantee compliance with the federal Animal Welfare Act, which requires humane care and treatment of animals.
