Careful what you eat!

Man dies after bug-eating contest

A feast of cockroaches and worms was the last meal for the winner of a bug-eating contest.

Edward Archbold, 32, of West Palm Beach, was "the life of the party," stuffing handfuls of insects into his mouth with about 30 other contestants vying for the grand prize of an $800 python at the Ben Siegel Reptile Store, Broward Sheriff's investigators said.

Shortly after the contest was over, Archbold wasn't feeling well and began to regurgitate. He collapsed outside the store and later died at a hospital, investigators said.

Can a pigeon be a champion?

Founded in 1920, the National Pigeon Association is an all-breeds pigeon club with an International membership. Encompassing all varieties of domesticated pigeons, the NPA promotes, educates, and acknowledges the efforts of fanciers in the continued development and care of our "favorite feathered friends!" Yes, a pigeon CAN be a champion, because the NPA holds a yearly exhibition to select the best of the best. The NPA 2010 Grand National was held in Salt Lake City Utah. There were 3,721 entries representing 26 breeds. Exhibitors came from every state in the USA and Canada. These pigeons are NOT your average scavengers, you know. Twisted Sifter, in "Bizarre Gallery of Grand National Champion… Pigeons!?!" has collected 30 photos of some of the winners from the Grand Nationals. Below are a couple of my favorites.

Lots of Rats!

After disposing of 39,650 rodents, a man from Bangladesh has been crowned a rat-killing champion and has been awarded a 14-inch Sony color television for his efforts. It took Binoy Kumar Karmakara one year to perform the daunting task and he used traps, poison and flooding to capture the animals. He also kept their tails so that he could keep count. Killing rats is a strategy that was launched by the government of Bangladesh because rats are responsible for the loss of about 10% of the country’s crops. Source

Win a free movie!

"Life on a Leash" is about Stella - she has a new job, a new car, and the perfect apartment. But something's missing - other people. Enter Kong, a giant brown-and-black stray dog who shows up when Stella is changing a flat tire. Suddenly her life is being pulled into the world of dogs and the oddball crowd that lives with four-legged friends. She enjoys the companionship and the community but keeps pulling back as Kong literally drags her out of her shell. (imdb) Jan, at the Poodle and Dog Blog, will give away the copy she received from the producers, and we'll add the one I received for the Pet Blog, so now two lucky people can get a free copy of this DVD. All you have to do is visit : Jan's post, Win a free dog movie, and in the "Comments", state the name and breed(s) of the dog who had the most influence on your life. That’s it.

Winner will be chosen by random drawing.

Earrings for dogs?

If I had a dog, which I don't, and if I were totally goofy, which I'm not, and if I were to get my dog's ears pierced, which I wouldn't, I would select these 1 carat total weight diamond stud earrings from Goldsmith Jewelry. On the other hand, just by blogging about these earrings I might win them and wear them myself. (via)
